5 changes in the manufacturing industry in 2021

When a new year begins, it is very common for experts from all sectors to venture into forecasting what the trends will be for the next 12 months.

To do this, it is essential to analyse what has happened recently and to value the information we have about the near future. This will help us to be prepared for what may come and to be ahead of our competitors who, perhaps, are not as up to date.

n this article we want to share with you some of the changes in the industrial sector that we foresee for 2021, especially those that affect manufacturers using laser machines.

Increased influence of telework

One of the changes brought about by the most atypical year of our lives has been the incursion of teleworking into the industrial sector. Throughout 2021, we are expected to gradually return to the "old normal", but after a certain amount of time carrying out remote work tasks, it is possible that they will be adopted for good. Will it be necessary to maintain offices as large as they are now, will shifts be implemented to alternate teleworking and face-to-face work?

Consulting, training or sales have been shown to be done remotely, saving time and money for companies.

Going digital marketing

Related to the previous point, advertising by companies in the industrial sector will also have to change this year. One of the most common methods of publicising products and services was by attending trade fairs. It is not ruled out that those that were cancelled in 2020 may be held this year, but the capacity will be very reduced and networking will not be as possible as before.

With that in mind, 2021 could be a good year to bet on digital marketing. Advertising on the internet, whether through Google Ads or social networks or by carrying out Inbound Marketing strategies to capture potential clients, is a growing trend that should be taken advantage of.

Growth of the internet of things

The internet of things or 4.0 will also become more important, as has been predicted for some years now. An example of 4.0 application in machinery that we are working on at Pérez is the installation of a single sensor in the machine's electrical panel that sends information on the machine's operation and consumption to the cloud.

This will allow us to know what is happening at all times and to be able prevent possible incidents, even remotely. This phenomenon is known as "predictive maintenance" and you are sure to hear a lot about it.

Year of renewal of public and private furniture

Laser fabrication companies are currently seeing their workload increase. Since the confinement, the renewal of private and public furniture is a constant.

In 2021, this renovation of private and public spaces will continue to increase and the companies that manufacture this furniture will have to be prepared. Of all the technologies, the fiber lase is the one that will become the most useful for the sector thanks to its versatility, cutting quality and, as we will see below, its low energy consumption.

Reducing energy use

The need to make a return on investment in the wake of the pandemic means cutting costs wherever possible. One of the ways to reduce variable costs in the manufacturing industry is to reduce the energy cost of machinery. Fibre laser is one of the most energy-efficient technologies in this respect, while other technologies such as waterjet and punch cutting are expensive.

The fibre laser also has a low cost in maintenance and consumables, two aspects that will help to reduce the monthly expenditure and that, at the end of the year, will end up representing a significant saving.
